Sunrise Series on Metrics and Performance Measurement and Management:
Understanding the Basics, Exposing the Myths, and Mastering the System
Thursday Aug 26, 2010 7:30 am - 9:30 am
Steven A. Melnyk, Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Management, Michigan State University
$55.00 per person
Grand Valley State University, Eberhard Center
301 Fulton St West, Grand Rapids, MI
In a world characterized by (1) the "never satisfied" customer; (2) the need to manage the "total" supply chain; (3) shrinking product life cycles; (4) more (but not necessarily better) data; (5) squeezed profit margins; and, (6) increased competition, a new approach to management is required. Key to this new approach is an increased reliance on metrics (indicators of performance). Metrics are needed so that problems can be anticipated and corrected before they become severe. In addition, what is required are the "right" number and type of metrics.
This presentation will provide attendees with an overview and examination of metrics. Our featured speaker, Steven A. Melnyk is a professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Michigan State University. He has co-authored 14 books, including Shop Floor Control, and Production Activity Control: A Practical Guide. In addition, Dr. Melynk is known for his ability to bridge the gap between the academic and practitioner worlds and he is the faculty director of education for the Masco Leadership Program in Operations Management and the Textron program in Operations Management. During his presentation, he will examine the challenges, problems and obstacles surrounding the development, introduction, use, and management of the "right" set of metrics.
