Food Product Development Associate Sourcing Manager, Meijer 08-27-10
The individual selected for this position will split their time between the Meijer distribution center located in Middlebury, Indiana (four days a week) and the Meijer corporate office in Grand Rapids, Michigan (one day a week). Our new Foods Product Development Associate Sourcing Manager will be responsible for being involved in private label, vendor branded, and fresh products, encompassing all Food categories.
As a Foods Product Development Associate Sourcing Manager you will:
- Support product development efforts by determining up front supplier capabilities and vendor selection
- Ensure cost competitiveness of all Meijer manufacturing raw materials by identification and implementation of cost reduction projects, commodity market evaluation, and maintaining rolling strategic sourcing calendar
- Execute risk management strategies for flour, cocoa, sugar, & oils
- Support manufacturing initiatives including identifying and qualifying secondary sources of supply for at risk materials
- Own the development and execution of vendor agreements
- Support manufacturing analysis for make/buy decisions
- Play a significant role in the new team leading Meijer down the "Road to Remarkable", which includes adding innovative new products which will add to the excitement, and giving the consumer additional reasons to shop at Meijer because "Meijer has the products I want"
- Provide raw material, packaging and/or finished goods sourcing support for all Meijer Own Brands including 1st Label, Markets of Meijer, Gold, Organic and Naturals
- Will partner with the Foods Product development sourcing manager, other Meijer functional positions (e.g., packaging, merchandising, etc) and Daymon
- Will not have P&L responsibility but must have exposure to key financial metrics that are necessary to drive business success across the self manufacturing platforms
To be considered for this opportunity you must possess:
- A basic understanding of raw material procurement
- Four year college degree in relevant area required (Agricultural Business or Economics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration)
- Experience working in a food manufacturing environment in a procurement, operations, or supply chain role with 1 to 4 years of experience
- An understanding of how commodity markets function
- Be aware of current trends in the industry, and passionate about food
- Positive, high energy individual, who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic
- Be flexible, adaptable and have demonstrated the willingness to roll up their sleeves
- Be a strong team player, with respect for individuals at every level of the organization

Foods Product Development Sourcing Manager, Meijer 08-27-10.
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for working with key international vendors, Food Merchandising and Self-Manufacturing to increase share growth, by sourcing materials or finished goods to deliver Meijer Own Brand products as good as or better than national brands as well as fresh (unbranded) product.
As a Foods Product Development Sourcing Manager you will:
- Provide domestic and global product sourcing expertise to the team and the entire food organization utilizing a skill set that includes sourcing strategy development, vendor identification/evaluation and on-going management
- Provide raw material and/or finished goods sourcing support for all Meijer Own Brands including 1st Label, Markets of Meijer, Gold, Organic and Naturals
- Partner with the Director of Product Development, other Meijer functional positions (e.g., Packaging, Merchandising, etc) and Daymon
- Will not have P&L responsibility but must have a record of solid financial success in product sourcing and P&L management
To be considered for this opportunity you must possess:
- 4 to 6 years experience in product sourcing domestically and globally
- Four year college degree in relevant area required (Procurement, Product Development)
- MBA desired
- The ideal candidate will have been a Product Sourcing Manager for a food company and have 4 to 6 years of experience with steady progression to positions of increased responsibility
- Must have a successful track record sourcing raw materials/finished product both domestically and globally
- Must have successful track record sourcing commodity products (flour, sugar, potatoes, raisins) and understand the marketplace trends/dynamics
- Proven ability to develop sourcing strategies for raw material/commodity and finished products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive thinker and problem solver
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to travel internationally
- Computer proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Must be aware of current trends in the industry, and be passionate about food

Supplier Development Manager, Herman Miller 08-25-10
We are searching for a motivated team player to join our Supply Management team in Zeeland, MI. The Supplier Development Manager will initiate and manage supplier development and integration in support of Herman Miller's and commodity team goals and sourcing strategies. The person in this role will build collaborative relationships with suppliers, ensure quality, delivery, and drive cost savings initiatives. Additionally this role will be involved in continuous improvement initiatives and will work with suppliers on their shop floor to drive continuous improvement.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, material management, finance or a related field or equivalent experience required. Four years experience in a professional procurement role within a manufacturing environment with expose to a breadth of commodities is critical. Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and experience in purchasing or a cost background are highly preferred. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and problem solving skills, and the ability to collaborate and negotiate are essential.
